Obituary of Robert Keith Candrella

Robert K. Candrella (Guido), of Woodbridge, VA, passed away on Friday, April 28th, 2023, at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda MD at the age of 67.  His family is devastated by his loss.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Joseph F. Candrella and the late Frances M. Candrella. The family moved to Pennsylvania where he was a graduate of William Tennent High School.

Bob enlisted in the Army in 1977 and retired after 32 years of service as a CW4. He traveled the world during his career as a CID Special Agent. His tales of adventure were fascinating, terrifying and sometimes completely hilarious. No one told a story like he did. He was a decorated Army soldier by all accounts.  He had the ability to make quick decisions and remain calm during crisis and he always put the needs of others before his own. He truly loved his time spent serving and was well liked (loved) by those who served with him. He had an amazing sense of humor and was quick witted.  When he was in the room you couldn’t help but laugh out loud, even if you were the target of the kidding. He cared deeply about his family and friends and was always there with a helping hand. While he built an amazing career, he was proudest of his children and grandchildren and loved to share stories about them most of all.

He had what we call the “car gene” in our family and had a love of fast cars, especially Corvettes. He loved to cook, read, and watch movies, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his father, Joseph F. Candrella, children; Joseph R. Candrella and wife Viviana, Clinton D. Candrella, Justin Townsend and wife Carolyn, and Amber Richie and husband Joe, grandchildren; Valentina, Miina, Rohan, James, and Lydia. He is also survived by his wife, Christine, his siblings, Joseph J. Candrella and wife Eileen, Crislynn Malamut, Kelly Heffner and husband Tom and his beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother Frances Candrella, his Aunt Beatrice Orlando and his brother-in-law Steven Malamut.

A private memorial will be held in Pennsylvania on May 20th. Bob will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Details of his interment are subject to the schedule of Arlington and unavailable as of yet. Please contact a family member for updates.
