Dear Mrs. Preuss,
I just heard the very sad news from my colleague in New York.
Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of Dr. Harry Preuss. Harry has been working on various researches on health benefits of medicinal mushrooms for Mushroom Wisdom, Inc.
His findings have contributed to the recovery of a number of people suffering the particular health disorders. Without his great support, out company would not have achieved successful growth in the natural health industry. I can not thank him enough for what he has done for our company. Now I am left with a lot of memories of great time we spent together in Tokyo, Osaka and various places in the US.
Wishing you peace, comfort, courage, and lots of love at this time of big sorrow.
Mike Shirota
Founder and former CEO of Mushroom Wisdom, Inc.

I am deeply saddened at the passing of Dr. Harry Preuss whom I affectionately called “Uncle Harry,” although we were not that much different in age. He in turn called me “Uncle Sid.” Harry was a friend and colleague. We published about 30 scientific papers and book chapters together throughout the 25 years of our acquaintanceship, and served on various national boards and committees together. Harry contributed much to our knowledge in the field of nutrition and bioactive naturally occurring plant constituents. He followed where the science led him, and Bonnie, the love of his life was always at his side.
He was very adept at analyzing research data from diverse sources and distilling the results into cohesive and meaningful conclusions. He enjoyed writing as evidenced by his prolific number of publications. He was the commensurate gentleman and scholar, and will be greatly missed by many. However, his scholarly publications will live on, and serve as a road map for those to follow. Sid Stohs, Ph.D., FACN, CNSE, ATS, FAPHA, FASAHP

Professor Harry Preuss was a priceless mentor on the nexus of science and health, a generous friend and a stirring example of humility and integrity. His hundreds of peer reviewed and thoroughly researched papers should set the agenda for global health care. His focus was on prevention, protection and wellness. A phrase he used to describe his work was Personal Preventive Medicine. I have personally benefited from the fruits of his decades of research as have many others. It is incumbent on all of us to carry on his mission of health and healing using the resources he left for us. Miraculously, he was also a man of faith who lived his faith. Consequently, with others who share his faith, I can say that Harry is now in the Promised Land beyond space and time. God bless you, Bonnie! Roy Varghese

An intellectual giant whose achievements in nutrition science and medicine are legendary and also a truly great man of moral character and virtue, I will never forget my dear friend. He was so kind to everyone, so humble, so devout in his faith. Despite his incredible achievements, which have advanced human understanding of the role of nutrition in health and disease treatment, he never once harbored pride at the expense of another. People the world over have received tangible benefits in overcoming obesity, diabetes, and age related disease thanks to his hours of research, his many discoveries and his hundreds of peer reviewed publications. He truly was a great man and a good and faithful servant. He now rests in the arms of the Lord, at peace. May that be a consolation to you, and may God Bless you, Veronica. We are here for you. Best,
Jonathan W. Emord

Tribute to Harry G. Preuss, MD
From Rich & Carol Scheckenbach
There are thousands of people who we meet throughout our lives, some who forever remain strangers or simple acquaintances, others who become friends, comrades, colleagues, mentors, or extended family. Harry was each of the latter group for me. We met about thirty years ago as associates doing work for the same company to validate and improve their products -- nutrients intended to enhance the health of humankind. It was immediately apparent what a unique individual Harry was with his vast knowledge of physiology and biochemistry, his easy manner in dealing with people, his wry wit and sense of humor, his devotion to his work and ever-growing portfolio of research, and his pride and love for his family. Within a short time after our initial meeting, our professional associations and personal connection started growing considerably and consistently.
While we worked together for several nutritionally-oriented companies and on related research projects, we also walked many different paths in our scientific pursuits. It was always a rewarding experience to work directly with Dr. Preuss and get his insights and perspectives that added so much value to the project at hand. His ability to expand and expound on medical and nutritional topics was nothing less than formidable. When on different paths, I often called upon him to get his thoughts on issues that would benefit from his broad knowledge, focused deliberations, and willingness to discuss minute details that others might overlook. He never hesitated providing his shoulders for me to stand upon. It was always elucidating and enjoyable to strategize new products and new approaches to better health with Harry.
Besides our professional work together, Harry also introduced me to his family of whom he was immensely proud and to whom he was genuinely devoted. Through those introductions, I met his children and the love of his life, Mrs. Bonnie Preuss. Throughout the years, each of us, together and individually, has shared time and conversations that have become a far-reaching extension of my friendship with Harry. Bonnie, the tireless servant of the sick and infirmed through her amazing career in nursing, was always there to support Harry and to provide her insights, her smiles, and her generous, caring spirit. Both I and my wife, Carol, are truly grateful to have been accepted and embraced into the Preuss family.
Whether talking science, politics, sports, or the state-of-the world, I always cherished my time spent with Harry. His ability to enjoy so many aspects of life with wisdom and humor was always refreshing. I will miss that just as I will miss the remarkable vitality of the man. I will hold memories of shared times for all my days, whether those be discussing nutritional sciences, trips to wine country, adventures in storied and foreign lands, acknowledging God’s miraculous universe, watching him and Bonnie dancing till all hours of the night in New York City, or just laughing about the lunacies and follies of humankind. Carol and I salute Dr. Harry Preuss and his life well-lived.

Dr. Preuss made it possible for me to create the scientific foundation for the field of Processed Food Addiction. He taught me how to read research. He guided my doctoral work. I always had confidence that my work was top-notch after he reviewed and commented. He gave me the confidence to move forward and write chapters and articles post-doctorate. With the doctoral team, we co-authored the first description of refined food addiction in the academic press. He invited me to my first presentation at the American College of Nutrition. I'm so grateful to him.
Like Dr. Preuss, I had the challenge of publishing new ideas that weren't necessarily consistent with what is known and accepted about disease and recovery. He was always there to co-author, lending his name and credibility to the work. It made a huge difference.
I'm quite certain that he persuaded CRC Press to offer me the opportunity to write the textbook for the field. I would not have accepted without Dr. Preuss' agreement to be a co-editor. For three years, Dr. Preuss always picked up the phone, listened to my questions, and gave me the right answers. Now the textbook has given many others the conviction that processed food addiction is real and devastating. Many now understand that their condition is supported by research. The textbook is still relieving suffering today.
In all ways and in every encounter, Dr. Preuss gave generously, kindly, and patiently of his time and experience. Now that he is gone, I realize how much I depended on him as an independent researcher. I liked him so much. I'll miss him.

Dr. Preuss encouraged those with whom he worked and often lent a helping hand. My brother Dallas (deceased) collaborated with Harry on many projects and always was thankful for Harry's advice and support.
