Loving husband for 72 years of Kwae Chul Gil; father of Hangyoung, Chagirl, Pia, Hyunsook, Seungwhan, and Taekyung, sixteen grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Born in Kumsan, Korea in 1916, he was a courageous and exceptional man who fought for what he believed in throughout his life. He started as a teacher, principal, patriotic soldier against the Japanese regime, later against the North Korean communists, and eventually against the dictatorship in South Korea. He was a “true born” educator as a teacher, principal of a high school, and a professor at the Korean Military Institute. He achieved two bachelor’s and one master’s degree; a unique accomplishment at his generation. Later, he helped to build the early day’s Korean Veterans Affair department. He was an administrator for the department of Education for the City of Seoul, the largest city in South Korea. Later, he became a principal advisor for the new political movement and party called the “Minju Gonwha.” For the seven years of his last career, he served the Korean Congress in a varying capacity as a Special Advisor in the area of government reform and operational transformation. After his retirement, at the age of 60, he immigrated to America; he called it as the “Land of Freedom.” He also dreamed of living in this special country where there is no political prosecution. At the age of 76, he received his Real Estate Broker license as an oldest Virginian. He was a true fighter and lived a full life with such a rigor and tenacity. All of his children inherited his special attributes that helped them and their children to excel. A burial memorial service will be held at the National Memorial Park in Fall Church. The service is restricted to only those who are immediate families.
