On behalf of the Catholic War Veterans of America headquarters and local post 1652 in Falls Church, we extend our deepest respect to the family of Joseph Bauernfeind. He severed the CWV as our post First Vice Commander and Director for several years, and the St Philip’s Church community as lecture. He will be sincerely missed by these groups as well as his close friends who he served so will as a friend of veterans. May God bless him in his journey home to heaven for eternity with God.

Joe was a top notch NCO, good friend and all around smart, low-key, nice guy. I am proud to have called him my friend. He and I would meet for lunch often in DC and talk about the world and other weighty matters, usually political. I was not aware that he was still in the DC area. I think I owe him a lunch on a bet he won. It might have been the Bill Clinton election…or was it Dick Nixon?

Pam, we are so sorry for your loss and pray that the Lord will surround you and your family with His healing grace in the days to come. Joe was such a wonderful supportive manager when I worked for him in the 1980’s at the VA. Years later he met my husband Marshall when I returned to the DC area—he always stayed in touch. Joe was such a generous soul.

Dear Bauernfeind family, we are very sorry for Joe’s passing. We had the pleasure to know Joe since the girls were in grade school through high school. He was always dedicated to his family and serving the schools and church. We will always remember his service to PVI’s band and his leadership during our band trips. He was a pleasure to be around. Joe is in our prayers as are all of you. God Bless! The Miranda Family

Pam, I am so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. He was always so friendly and had such a positive attitude, and he had a “servant” mentality – always ready to, and helping others. I was lucky to have him in my life during my formative years, and will always treasure the special bond we had as fellow seminarians. God bless you and your family!

So sorry for your loss. He was great man, friend, and soldier. I had the pleasure of serving with him while Commander of the 338th MI BN where he was my BN CSM for three years. He always displayed a calm demeanor who always had the welfare of his troops first and foremost. A lot of good memories and good times with him over the years.

Pam, I am saddened at the news of Joe’s death and hope you find solace in your children and the memories of your life together. Both Linda and I enjoyed the brief time we shared at the recent Loras reunion. Joe had such a positive outlook but that actually was part of Joe’s personality even when I first knew him as a student at Loras . I am thankful that we were able to reconnect. Phil and Linda Gansen
