Billy Mason

Obituary of Billy Mason

William Wesley Mason “Billy” passed away at the age of 61 on March 10th 2020. Billy is the proud father of Derrik A. Davis and William R. Mason “Robbie”, as well as beloved grandfather to Mason T. Davis. Also surviving is his father William G. Mason; nieces Terri Thomas and Faye Brown; nephew Timothy Brown and their families.  He was predeceased by his mother Pauline M. Mason; sisters Brenda Seymour, Janet Brown; and nephew Scott Seymour.

Billy was born on September 22, 1958 in Arlington VA, where he grew up. Billy was a proud graduate of Washington and Lee High School. He is known for his love of sports and outdoor activities. You would often find Billy playing a game of football, running track races, or cycling through the neighborhood sometimes stirring up trouble with the boys. Billy was very sociable growing up, creating a core group of friends he would do anything for. Those friendships have lasted him a lifetime. His love for sports didn’t stop at childhood. As an adult Billy joined a bowling league receiving multiple awards and recognitions for high scoring games. In addition to bowling, he also played on several softball leagues through the years, with the last one being a local recreational league with many of his childhood friends. Even when he wasn’t on the field or in the alley, he would always follow and attend games of his favorite sports teams, the Redskins and Capitals.

Billy was a proud member of the US National Guard, Air Force division, where he served 6 years as an aircraft maintenance specialist achieving the rank of Sergeant. He later joined the United States Department of Agriculture as an IT specialist where he continued employment for the past 29 years. Billy was very passionate about his career and was always excited to learn the newest, greatest technology and keeping his office up to date with the best of the best. His colleagues had great respect for his noble, fix anything and help everyone, attitude and work ethic.

Billy was also a wonderful family man. Whether it be annual trips to Chincoteague Island, or Bryce Ski resort, he was always looking to spend time with family. He loved his mother dearly and made sure she knew it. The two of them took many adventures of their own. He was very proud of the men his sons have become and has cherished the time spent and memories created with them.

Billy had built a reputation for being kind, loving, protecting, and loyal to those he loved. He may have been tough looking on the outside, but on the inside, he was a giant heart full of love to share. He will be loved and missed by many and is now peacefully reunited with his Mother.

Due to the Coronavirus we must adhere to the guidelines set forth by the state and limit the attendance of people at the service. The family will hold a Celebration of Billy's life in September, close to his birthday.
