Obituary of Duane M. Enoch

Duane Martin Enoch passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 29th after  bravely battling a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kathryn Kinnal, of Springfield, VA, his son Michael Enoch (Desiree), of Tucson, AZ, and stepson John Kinnal (Rosie) of Springfield, VA.  He also leaves behind his dear sister, Janet Brooks (Marshall) and three nephews, Marc Montgomery (Vanja), Chris Montgomery (Karen) and Paul Montgomery.  He will also be fondly remembered by his sister in law, Donna Kinnal, and brother in law, Bo Kinnal.  Duane also leaves behind two precious grandchildren, Lorelai Enoch, age eight, and Brenna Enoch, age one. He will also be remembered by his grandnieces and nephews and many cherished friends.  He was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Norma Enoch and a sister, Nancy Postman.

Duane was originally from Alexandria, VA.  He played football as a TC Titan for TC Williams High School. He has valued the friendships of his Titan friends over the years.  Duane went on to study Engineering Drafting at Northern Virginia Community College. 

Duane had a long career as an auto insurance appraiser, which suited him well given his love of cars, especially American muscle and classic cars. He particularly loved Pontiacs.  His pride and joy were a 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix and a 1978 Trans Am. He shared his love of cars with his sons, who are both skilled in auto repairs.  

Duane’s favorite past time was surf fishing.  His love of fishing began in the 1960’s fishing with his father in Ocean City, MD.  He has carried on the tradition sharing his love of fishing with his wife and two sons on their many family trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Duane also fished from his Bayliner Trophy, the “Reel Lucky”, expertly navigating the Hatteras/Ocracoke Inlet, making many successful inshore and offshore trips.

Duane also had a talent for building custom fishing rods.  He was skilled in weaving intricate patterns and pictures of fish using threads.  He would also weave the recipients name on the rod.  This made his custom rods truly unique and cherished by those he built them for.  Duane’s generosity and kind nature were unmatched, each rod built was generously gifted, he never built one for profit.  Duane and his wife also enjoyed antiques. He purchased and restored many antique rods and reels. 

In addition, Duane also had a love of animals.  Our home was always filled with fur baby rescues. Many an Outer Banks feral kitten found a forever home with us.

In keeping with Duane’s love of the Outer Banks, his memorial service will be held late next Spring at the beach he loved.  Details will follow as they become available.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 at 1:00 pm in South Nags Head, NC. The service will be officiated by Reverend Sarah Kalish.
