Mrs. Griffiths or Aunt Ruby was my beloved mother’s dear friend. In time Aunt Ruby became a friend to me. Aunt Ruby was known for her brilliance, sage advice and humor. Aunt Ruby was a class act who was highly respected at UWI Hospital where she was the Chief Pharmacist. She was known by many for her kindness and soft spoken disposition. Mrs. Griffiths touched so many people and I will miss her. I am comforted knowing where she has gone and will be resuming many friendship there.

MEMORIES by the Blakes
Mrs G, Mrs. Ruby Griffiths, Mrs. R. M. Griffiths - Her Royal Majesty (for me). I do believe that if Jamaica had had its own queen, it would have been Mrs. Ruby Griffiths. Poised and dignified and a fastidious fashionista.
I met Mrs. Griffiths in the summer of 1971 after completing my 1st year at C.A.S.T. and having to
work at the UHWI for a month. She was then Deputy Chief Pharmacist and , along with Ms. Doris Phillips, was in charge of the Department as Mr. Ellis had dermitted office. I was very impressed by both her efficiency and her demeanour.
In January 1975, I joined the staff full time and came under her guidance and direction. Naturally, we had our ups and downs, but we had a cordial relationship. I always wondered why she was often humming and later found out that it was her way of coping with the stresses if the job. She ran the Department, with great competence, for a few years before Mr. Forbes took over as Chief Pharmacist and shortly before I was employed full time.
I learned much from her which has served me in both my professional and private lives. After her retirement, she transitioned from supervisor to friend but the bond is now broken. As fellow believers, we would talk about the things of the Lord and I know she was His friend.
She and my husband, Michael, also a Pharmacist, shared the same birthday anniversary. Without fail, she would always call him on March 25th and they would share pleasantries. I, too, would at least call her on her birthday and at Christmas. Now, we can look forward to meeting again in the Sweet Bye and Bye.
To Andy, Pat, Richard and their families, Margaret and Michael Blake profess their sincere condolences and pray that the good Lord will bring you His comfort.

Tribute to the memory of Mrs. Ruby May Priscilla Griffiths from current UHWI Pharmacy Family, with contributions from some in the local and overseas Diaspora who came under her influence in their pharmacy journey.
Mrs G was one of the 3 founding pharmacists that started the pharmaceutical service in 1952. She was very disciplined and carried out her duties with fortitude as she rose through the ranks, retiring in the 1990s as the first Deputy Director of Pharmacy. She was a Doyenne of the Pharmacy profession, serving with grace, poise, decorum and pride.
She was a kind lady and expressed concerns for the welfare of staff and their families. She encouraged the younger people to live and enjoy life to the fullest.
We were impressed by her clean habits as she spread her place-mat on the dining table to have her lunch, which she ate with knife and fork. She washed her fruits befire eating and had a little knife with which to cut them.
Mrs G was the epitome of ladylikeness - she never raised her voice, even in disciplinary situations. She was stately, and very proper, humble, quiet and yet quite jovial and had a winning smile.
We know she had challenges (as in.the passing of her son, Robert) yet she remained a very private person and endured with quiet dignity. She was never a gossip and kept confidences. We were happy to have been able to honour her, as a Department, on her retirement in the 1990s and to express our appreciation for her service.
She returned for a few years serving as a Sessional Pharmacist and was available for her sage advice.
In her retirement, she still kept pleasant ties with the department until her passing.
We truly miss this stalwart of the profession and of our Pharmacy Family. She served well and has now gone on before to her Eternal Rest.
We extend sincerest condolences to Andy, Richard, Pat and their families.

Mrs Ruby, otherwise called Ms “G” or Mama was the quintessence of class and beauty who spoke with poise, authority and wit. She made you feel special and loved. Always enjoyed my visits with her where we would just have high tea or take a stroll in her garden or just listen to her reminisce on the good old days. She loved the Lord and spoke about her faith and trust in God. She will be sadly missed by her children , grandchildren , other family members and friends. A life well lived above self , she is now resting in the arms of her Master and Savior
Respectfully: Patrick Goulbourne & family
