Obituary of Jean A. Cooper

Jean Adele Linton Cooper, 72, of Annandale, Virginia, died on September 4, 2023. She was born March 15, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, to Seward and Margaret Linton. Affectionately called Jeanie, she spent her left dedicated to serving others. She graduated from nursing school through the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing (WRAIN) scholarship program in 1973, and was commissioned as an officer in the US Army Nurse Corps. She began her career as a critical care nurse, before moving to psychiatric nursing upon completion of her master’s degree from the University of Washington. She retired from the US Army with the rank of Major after twenty years of honorable service in 1989, choosing as her final duty station Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in her home state of Colorado. She continued her career in civilian nursing, before finally retiring and using her time for service through volunteer work. She was received into the Orthodox Christian faith in 2009, taking as her patron saint Mary of Egypt, at St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church in Littleton, CO. While a parishioner at St. Herman’s, she was a founding member of a diaper ministry that over the course of a decade, coordinated the donations of thousands of baby wipes and diapers to families in need. She was a very loving mother to her children, Eric and Lauren. In 2019, as her health declined, she moved from Colorado to Virginia to live with her daughter Lauren, who cherished her final years together. While in Virginia, she was a member of the Protection of the Mother of God Orthodox Church in Falls Church. 

She is survived by her two children, Eric (Ankita) Cooper, and Lauren Cooper; her siblings Carol (Ted) Schmidt, Carla (Duncan) Brown, and Seward Anderson Linton, Jr. (Mary); many friends, and her dog, Cash.
