Obituary of Eric Farrell Norman

Eric was born on October 7, 1948 in Washington DC.  He was the second child of Louis and Gertrude Ostrow Norman (both deceased).  He passed on from this life suddenly on September 7, 2023 in Alexandria, Virginia.

Eric spent his first 14 years in DC, attending Shepard Park Elementary and Paul Junior High.  He spent his free time exploring Rock Creek Park, playing touch football at Indian Springs Country Club, and attending Buffalo Gap Summer Camp.  The family moved to Bethesda in 1963, where Eric attended and graduated from Walt Whitman High School in 1966.

Next, Eric entered American University, where he majored in political science.  His education included protesting the Vietnam war and promoting causes that he believed would make the world a better place.

After graduation in 1970, Eric held a variety of positions in retail and the federal government.  He spent some time doing creative writing, including writing an action-adventure screenplay.  He settled in to working for the federal government at a variety of agencies in San Francisco, Washington DC, Chicago and Boston.  He retired in 2011 from his last position with the federal department of agriculture, food and nutrition service, supplemental food programs in Alexandria Virginia.

Eric spent his retirement years traveling to see friends and family, attending concerts by his favorite musicians, and researching topics of interest including military history.

Eric (affectionally known as “Eggie” by immediate family) leaves his brother Jeffrey Norman of Washington, DC and his “little girls” sister Robin (George) Depaoli of Vienna Virginia.  A celebration of Eric’s life will be held at noon on Saturday, October 21st at the Depaoli home.  All are welcome,  a light lunch will be served.  Please RSVP to Robin at robin2george@msn.com if attending and directions will be provided.
