Obituary of Cynthia Annette King

Cynthia Annette (Pug) King (Age 79)

Cynthia Annette (Pug) King passed away peacefully on 10/22/2023 at her home in Arlington, VA. The daughter of George Robert King and Margie Lena Creech King, she was born in Garner, NC.

Cynthia was a graduate of Garner High School (Class of ’62) and a graduate of Hardbarger Business College. After graduation, Cynthia and her best friend Anne Webster set out on a new adventure, relocating to Northern Virginia. Her first job was as a secretary at the Pentagon and the commute to the job was a little unusual – she lived in Maryland and took a boat over to the Pentagon. Later, she worked as a secretary at the law firm of Shook, Hardy and Bacon. After that she worked as a reprographics supervisor at Howrey and Simon. Cynthia was a Realtor for McEnearney Associates and finished her career as a legal secretary at Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber and Schreck.

Cynthia taught stained glass classes at the Smithsonian Institute. She was a costume designer for Hexagon and an award-winning costume designer for The Arlington Players. She was also an avid quilter and shared her love of crafts with many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margie King.

She is survived by her longtime housemate and best friend, Pamela Stapleton, her sister Nancy Jane King Whalen of Sanford, NC, her nieces Sandra Walker (Chris) of Hope Mills, NC and Kelsey Crowley (Kyle) of Sanford, NC, and two great-nephews Declan Walker and Ayden Whalen. A memorial service will be held in Arlington, VA and Garner, NC with dates to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
