Dorothy Black

Obituary of Dorothy Jane Black

Dorothy Jane Ramsey Black, 98, of Annandale, VA. died Sunday, December 31, 2023. She was the daughter of Charles James Ramsey and Elizabeth Senora Parnell Ramsey and was born on August 8, 1925, in Columbus, Ga. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Harold Black; two brothers, Charles James Ramsey, Jr., and Leroy Michael Ramsey of Marietta, Ga.; and five sisters, Mary Ruth Ramsey Johnson of Marietta, GA, Annie Katherine Ramsey Thompson of Homer, Ga., Betty Geraldine Ramsey Spears of Marietta, Ga., Patricia Ann Ramsey Cook of Ellijay, Ga., and Barbara Jean Ramsey of Atlanta, Ga.

She is survived by her children, Harold M. Black (Gloria) of Hamilton, VA., Amelia L. Potter (Mitchell) of Arlington, VA., Andrew R. Black (Kathy) of Fairfax, VA, along with 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, sister Sandra Nell Ramsey Williams of Navarre, Fl. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dotty Black was a full time homemaker and a loving wife, mother, sister, friend, cousin, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Always the extrovert, she never met a stranger in her life and was always ready to strike up a conversation or lend a helping hand. She loved being in the kitchen and experimenting with various recipes — always tweaking them to make them her own — and of course, NEVER giving away what made her food delicious. Outside the home, sitting at the bridge table and playing a competitive game of bridge was one of her greatest joys - attaining a Bronze Life Master ranking in 2017. She lived life to the fullest and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A brunch to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 10:00AM at Fort Myer Officer’s Club - Patton Hall, 214 Jackson Ave., Fort Myer, VA. 22211
