Obituary of Susan L. Hartford

      Susan Lynn Hartford, 52, of Arlington, VA, passed unexpectedly in her home on Monday, February 26, 2024. Susan was a passionate attorney for the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel where she had worked with the National Taxpayer Advocate Service for nearly 20 years. She consistently pushed to make sure that the right answer was reached under the law, making sure that taxpayers’ rights were always fully preserved, even when that meant that the government prevailed.  She was instrumental in the operation of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic grant program. She was an amazing woman, who went out of her way to help everyone she met.  She was a social coordinator for her husband and daughter and so many others.  

    Most importantly, and her most cherished accomplishment, was being an amazing mother to her daughter, Lily. She got great joy watching Lily skate both alone and with Lily’s synchronized skating team, DC EDGE. Susan had the opportunity to watch Lily’s team take 4^th place in the nation in the Juvenile division just before her untimely passing. She could not have been prouder of or happier for Lily and her team. 

    She is preceded in death by her father, David Moon of Annawan, IL. 

    She is survived by her husband James (Jamie) Hartford, daughter, Lily, both of Arlington, VA, her mother, Sandra Moon of Falls Church, VA, brother Scott Moon of Peoria, IL, sister, Laura Meyer (Eric), of Chicago, IL, and seven nieces and nephews.  Her friends and family will miss her tremendously.
